Man's Garage publishes plain-English guides for the maintenance and repairs you can actually do yourself.

Not dealership upsells. Not mechanic-speak. Just the answer to the job in front of you: brakes that stop squealing, a battery that won't hold a charge, an oil change done right, a check-engine code you can actually read.

Who writes it

Man's Garage is written and operated by Jeff McRae, a sole proprietor based in Bennington, Vermont — one person, turning the wrench on each job before publishing it.

How the guides are written

Every guide follows the same shape, because that's the shape that answers a question:

• The exact job you're doing, named in the first paragraph.
• What it costs you if you get it wrong — stated before the steps, not after.
• The torque, the order, and the specs, in real numbers.
• The fastest safe path, not the fussiest.
• The one bolt or step everyone forgets — the part that strands people halfway.
• How to know it's done right, so you're not guessing on the highway.

What we don't do

We don't tell you to replace a whole assembly when a $12 part fixes it. We don't pretend a brake job is a two-minute clip. We flag honestly when a job needs a shop, a lift, or a pro.

The subscriber program

You can subscribe to be notified by text or email when a new fix goes up. It's free, it takes about thirty seconds, and every channel is a separate, optional choice. You can leave at any time by replying STOP to any message.
